Day 289 - Purple Tree

Blooming in the brightest of spirits

Behind the ordinary tree it sits

Let's plant a tree like this everywhere

To show the hurting how much we care

Purple joy on every single leaf

To prove our faith in our belief

That equality will be found for all

As surely as tree colors change in the fall

Day 160 - Love Knows No Restrictions

You and I, they call us a declaration

But we just laugh and live our lives

It is not a message to the nation

Of some decision on who should be wives

It's love plain and simple, no foolhardy games

The only people we need, already know our names

Back in the times of the rainbow parades

It seemed more natural the way they would stare

Then it seemed they thought it a game of charades

But that was long ago, and far away there

This is now the only way we know how to we live

Together, not separate with no more speeches to give

It is no longer some journey we are taking

Unsure of where we will find ourselves in the end

It is the hope of the future that has us shaking

With endless sweet nothings still to send

In unmarked envelopes we leave here and there

So that all love is spread out, everywhere

Day 102 - Silenced

I don't speak, you don't see

But then again it's not only me

You have me locked in the dark

Too frightened to make my mark

Why not listen to what I say?

Why always side with 'they'?

They who exiled Galilaeo

Censored many a book and show

They who shackled men to be slaves

Like those living in caves

No one can prove the majority is right

Now when we have entered such a night

So instead of scoffing when you eye my shirt

Stop a moment and think of all the hurt

That such attitudes have caused before

And pull away from the hateful core
