Gesher Gadol - The Explanation

Yesterday we posted a poem titled "Gesher Gadol" which I am really excited about. A little explanation.. I was having a hard time coming up with the perfect title, but I finally landed on Great Gesher, because to me it really is about the crossings we make in life. In Hebrew Gesher means bridge. While discussing this with The Photographer I also realized that great/big in Hebrew is gadol. This excited me to absolutely no end, as many of our readers will know I am a true lover of alliteration and this poem's title is alliterated in both Hebrew and English and a mix between the two!

Alternative titles include:

Big Bridge

Great Gesher

and Gesher Gadol.

The Photographer's Poem

The gift of Memory is such an awful curse,

'cause when I finally leave your arms,

each step away from you makes it worse;

The longing I feel, setting off internal alarms.

Little notes here and there,

and small tokens of our affair.

They remind us how we feel

though this situation is not ideal.

Perhaps we can together be,

in the land of the imaginary.

A few flowers, be they Dandelions or Roses,

given at the right time is all that he needs.

Just as a poet or photographer composes

their work, so does a lover sow his seeds.

Through twists and turns we slide

Living life in the bodies we reside

Like a cars on a roller coaster ride








Dear Readers,
The Poet sent me a picture she took today, and I liked it. I also found it inspiring. So I wrote a poem for it. It's called "A Few Flowers" (Sorry for the repeating picture subject matter, that's just how it worked out) (Hopefully the official day 49 poem and picture will be up later tonight)

Life Goes On

Dearest Internet Companions,

Hope you are all doing well and keeping as busy as the Photographer and I have. We have both been out of town the last few days, and the Photographer is still rather far from home. This has had an interesting effect on our posts, but hopefully not a negative one. I just wanted to say we hope you had a beautiful Valentine's Day and are enjoying the shortest month the year has to offer.

Why Now?

Dearest Blog Readers and my Brilliant Collaborative Master The Photographer,

Today was a day which I received over 300 shots to play with and learn from. To grapple with and request inspiration from. To marvel at and truly absorb. Today was the day I could make no such decision, the honesty and honor in these shots requires more words than I have to give today, so many more must live today.

Enjoy this new and unique expression.

A quick note about today's poem:

Firstly a considerable amount of applause for the brilliant Photographer who gave me such excellent, currently relevant and inspiring pieces to work with. One could ask for no better.

It was composed in a very specific format so that it reads down stanza by stanza rhyming (there are two on the left and two on the right) it should however be noted that it also reads across stanzas by matching lines, which is why it is posted differently spaced. Blogspot would not allow me to post as two separate columns, so I did the best I could to express the four stanzas side-by-side, but also separate.

Hello to all you brilliant blog readers out there!

Welcome to the blog of our brand new project.

The idea of this project and epic artistic attempt came along when we (the poet, myself, and the photographer) were once again playing collaborations. We decided the most appropriate way to share these creations with the world is to blog about them.

So here is our promise to one another and online to you as well.

We will post one photograph and corresponding poem every single day, for 365 days... yes that is a year long commitment that we are thrilled to have begun on January 5, 2010. This is by far my most important New Year's Resolution, so sit back and enjoy as we take on this crazy project.

The original rules that started it all are...

The Rules (or how the crazy artists start such things)

-The goal of this project is to produce one piece of collaborative work daily for an entire year hence the title “Three Hundred Sixty Five: The Project”.

-DAY DEADLINE: 12:00 midnight CST

-Poem and photograph and vice versa must be written and taken on the same day according to the above deadline and the solar Calendar.

-This project commenced on January 5, 2010

-As a collaboration between Eric and Jackie.

-The practice is of photograph being taken first and poem being written to that photograph.

-Eric will serve as the photographer.

-Jackie will serve as the poet.

We are thrilled to begin this journey from a Wolf and Stranger... (figure out who's who, later)
