Frozen Hopes
You drenched the sweet girl that day
In candy-coated compliments
She wept with a quiet "thank you" to say
And dwelled on such short moments
But now you leave her all alone
And she ices over cold as stone
The beauty that once colored her face
Has torn away to other lands
She is frozen in the same wretched place
Giving in to your cruel demands
She spends her days quieter by and by
Until she cannot even see the gray sky
She has darkened under that white
Now hardier than she was before
Better to make it through the night
Readying herself for what may be in store
Hoping she will discover one final spring day
Showing you did mean all that you used to say
