Day 269 - His Last Trip

Send me a stone that he held in his hand
Moments before that final earthly goodbye
Pushing off the shore away from the land
I began to shake and silently cry
He laughed and promised his return
Too soon though I would learn

The last time I held him in my embrace
Was that warm day on the beach
The last glimpse of his glowing face
Before he was forever gone from my reach
The final note in his scrawling penmanship
Oregon 2010 translated to his final trip

I still imagine the island he discovered
Only there in the roughest of weather
Some may call that foolishly absurd
But I can see the day we are back together
This time in the grand ocean in the sky
Saying hello and never again goodbye
