Day 259 - Sunflower Fields

Fold memories into golden petals of happiness
On a stem deeper than any buried emerald
Perfect joy that you remember from playing in fields
Laughing between stalks high above your head
Daddy running behind you to at last sweep you up
Into his arms and spin you around in glee
You wonder aloud "when will I grow so big?"
And your laughing Mommy trails behind promising
"Much too soon, my fairy princess."

It turns out she is right and now you stare at the flower
Sitting on your doorstep from your perfect crush
Who has been whispering sweet nothings into your ear
Long enough to show that he feels it in his heart
The secret message that your childhood bloom holds
The gold will shade your new fairy princess dress
For when he sweeps you up into his arms
There may not be a field of tall green stalks
But then again not every fairy tale needs them
