Day 162 - Better Night Than Most But Still Cold

Today I was colder than yesterday
For apparently everyone had only "no" to say
"No I cannot spare any change, you scum"
The harsher yet unsurprising "bum"
Slapped me in the face from between their teeth
For after all I only live far beneath
In the tunnels of train-stops like a ghost
As unseen as the boring white post
And even more so bundled as I am tonight
Begging for the warmth, but only seeing the light
That cannot help blot out my demons
That puncture me in the forms of needles and pins
I can no longer read the sign that says "welcome"
I lost all those hopeful thoughts, and then some
The stairs tonight in the old abandoned shed
Leave me one more day, more alive than dead
But in the biting, raging, winds and cold
I see too much innocence, constantly sold
A warm bed with a stranger weighing a ton
Is better than the concrete with ice to stun
Lice to bite and infect your aching head gone
Forgetting what was once said about moving on
To a better place and your own warm house
Which you would share with neither rat nor mouse
That is just more of the cruelly deceitful hope
Shit and nonsense people make up to cope
With their blatant disregard for this bum's heart
The crazy dreams and terrors are ripping me apart
Into the crazy garbage can man you all fear
Who started talking to himself, since no one else could hear
The cries at night that flooded his cardboard sanctuary
The dead lie in cleaner spaces in the mortuary
Or the woman who huddles in the filth of pigeons
While all human contact she woefully shuns
Because birds stick together the way man does not
Never leaving their own kind to slowly rot
Away brains and hope, to be coated in strife
After all that is no way to live a life

Day 160 - Love Knows No Restrictions

You and I, they call us a declaration
But we just laugh and live our lives
It is not a message to the nation
Of some decision on who should be wives
It's love plain and simple, no foolhardy games
The only people we need, already know our names

Back in the times of the rainbow parades
It seemed more natural the way they would stare
Then it seemed they thought it a game of charades
But that was long ago, and far away there
This is now the only way we know how to we live
Together, not separate with no more speeches to give

It is no longer some journey we are taking
Unsure of where we will find ourselves in the end
It is the hope of the future that has us shaking
With endless sweet nothings still to send
In unmarked envelopes we leave here and there
So that all love is spread out, everywhere

Day 102 - Silenced

I don't speak, you don't see
But then again it's not only me
You have me locked in the dark
Too frightened to make my mark
Why not listen to what I say?
Why always side with 'they'?
They who exiled Galilaeo
Censored many a book and show
They who shackled men to be slaves
Like those living in caves
No one can prove the majority is right
Now when we have entered such a night
So instead of scoffing when you eye my shirt
Stop a moment and think of all the hurt
That such attitudes have caused before
And pull away from the hateful core

Day 29 - Justice Lies

Justice Lies

Look, there lays Justice so dormant and still
Not at all worried about anyone's will
Even though now it has been said she is missed
I am still just a number on an endless list
That she has ignored for a score or two it seems
Any actual help seems now to only exist in dreams
If you pull hard enough on a set of strong scales
You will find so many tellers spinning tales
After all how often does Honesty stand
To the right of sweet Justice hand in hand?
One would think this a normal occurrence
But it only seems to add in more abhorrence
In the fact that they do nothing for the true goal
They just increasingly digging deeper the hole
Where all the ones who need help the very most
End up, or so Malice and Anger boast
They seem to rule with a much firmer grasping fist
Like the cancerous ulcer or the yellowing cyst
If only the scales that hold Justice would wake
There would be such great steps we could take
But still the dormant and uncaring stances are rampant
Nothing more powerful of Hopes' virtues are sent
So the answer is simple and unjust existence
Still no help for those taking path of resistance

Day 11 - Just Tomorrow

Just Tomorrow

Weighty moments have tipped the scales
Justice has been blinded once more
I fear the time when She fails
Leaving the forgotten without a score
Alas, the fiend Opinion leaps from left to right
Keeping your mind spun in confusion
Pretending to support Justice's sight
While knowing it is truly abetting delusion
Time has passed all concerns with Justice's plight
Clock a tick-tocking with no end in sight
But now it moves to the center untrue
There is now much too much balance in view

Bells toll out as sirens and angels battle
High in the skies bringing no help to us
We are here, down below we struggle and rattle
Hoping that again on Earth they will focus
Nature laughs cruelly and pulls another stone
Numbers of people and lives are once again unknown
How can we hope to stop this unrest?
When all the old leaders have now confessed
They know no more than we the people
Not even guided by scripture or steeple

Who could ever imagine this day would come
When all they could do was admit their defeat
After all the harm they have caused for some
Now they say their missions are incomplete?
They still have more hurt waiting to file through
For damage and hatred they shall go the distance
But what of the tragic ones, me and you?
Struggling to keep up the positive resistance
Is there not some message we can pull from the air
To express the need for us all to truly care
For every single one and other
The whole of humanity like sister and brother

Justice someday soon must make a choice
Blind faith in the system is now failing
For if her blindness prevents her voice
Than the discouraged will never stop their flailing
The poor and the endlessly hungry
They are no worse off than those we reject
All need the chance to be free
Each human being deserves that respect
So take up what it is that you hold with pride
Stand up for what is right we wield too much now to hide
