Day 302 - Naughty at the Seaside

Dedicated to my Daddy who read the book a million times over to me

Tell me the story again, she pleads
Sifting the sand between her toes
The one where they get caught up in the sea weeds
Nodding she can see that Daddy knows
So he puts on the funny face he saves
For only the best and most heroic tales
In which the adventurers hide in caves
Quickly pulling down their give-away sails
She walks on proudly sure she is the one
Who shall master the pirate's vast ship
A perfect day in the seaside sun
Water bright blue inviting a dip
Into tales of pirates who the wide world roam
Nothing else in the stories ever felt so like home

Day 264 - Sunflower Fields Fading

The years grow shorter and tired now
Petals close upon memories that set with the sun
Away from the summer light life pulls you
Your own princess begins her journey
And your energy is used up helping her
As she bursts into bloom the way all children do
It is your laughing husband spinning his daughter about
When you return to your quiet sunflower fields
It is making way for life, as it surrenders its own

You are still learning from this place even today
Wrapped in a cardigan in hopes of not fading with the wind
Your precious flowers have had a long life of brightness
They with time grow less stocky and you find yourself following suit
You show your daughter how to eat the delicious seeds
And she laughs out loud, shaking them for music, growing faster every day
You slide some seeds under her pillow tonight, for sweet dreams
And under your own as you used to save pressed petals in your books
Planning to take them out to bring your field to life again, you smile

Day 23 - Love

Love

Here I begin to bend, anything for my darling
It matters not what shape I might take on later
And though this may seem quite alarming
I would go through hell and back and still wait for her
She holds all that has ever meant anything at all
She creates light even when the hope is so small

You see when she holds me, I know nothing more
There is only now and having her by my side
Nothing matters about later or before
For with me she has chosen to truly confide
How can such an angel breathe next to me?
That I will be forever too blind to see

I have not felt this pure or right since my birth
And that was eons ago or so it seems
That only placed me here on this earth
But she has come straight out of my dreams
To enlighten every moment I exist and live
And for her there is nothing I would not give
