Day 327 - Freedom

Just try to yell a little bit louder
I can almost hear your soul's glee
Just laugh a smidgen prouder
Feeling the true moment, you're free
Dance your heart out until the end
Of the beginnings we all find ourselves in
No greater message to send
Than the reign of love can begin
I can see it twinkling in your smiles
Its embrace made by your hands
Gone for this time are all the trials
Right this second the world understands
Your soul is soaring with every beat
In this moment you are complete

Day 309 - A Skater and His Board

My world rattles about on wheels
Scratched and worn from use
Home to my tired shoes and hard heels
Like I, it has taken much abuse
We roam the streets as a pair
In my skinny jeans I skid about
Every once in awhile they stop and stare
And sometimes they try and throw us out
But the rough gravel at my feet
Reminds me that I am rough, but complete

Day 307 - Tire Swing

Push me until I am very dizzy
Wind brushing my hair so frizzy
Into an ever crazier spiral
Reminding one of times tribal
When we as an entity beat our feet to a drum
And echoed the earth's own thundering hum
With our voices squealing laughter
In the domain of happily ever after

Day 302 - Naughty at the Seaside

Dedicated to my Daddy who read the book a million times over to me

Tell me the story again, she pleads
Sifting the sand between her toes
The one where they get caught up in the sea weeds
Nodding she can see that Daddy knows
So he puts on the funny face he saves
For only the best and most heroic tales
In which the adventurers hide in caves
Quickly pulling down their give-away sails
She walks on proudly sure she is the one
Who shall master the pirate's vast ship
A perfect day in the seaside sun
Water bright blue inviting a dip
Into tales of pirates who the wide world roam
Nothing else in the stories ever felt so like home

Day 294 - Azure Storm

Every pin point of power
Ripples into greatness one day
The leaves of the surrendering shower
Scattering off to their own lives to pray

Dreams cannot paint so pretty a picture
And still in your heart you truly miss her
The one who you shot each day blindly
Too bad fairy tales cannot all end kindly

Every link to the heavens we find here
We implant in our memories as treasure
Be it a misty morning, or afternoon so clear
The beauty we constantly try to measure

Dreams cannot paint so pretty a picture
And still in your heart you truly miss her
The one who you shot each day blindly
Too bad fairy tales cannot all end kindly

Blessed with wind and oncoming rain
The azure storm brews for each of us
It drenches both the crazy and the sane
The ongoing struggle in each of us

Day 273 - Democracy

Small slips of paper unite a nation
Trust in a system we lead
Forming under our creation
An ever growing, age old creed
We will change the way things are
If it takes our tears and sweat
Raising everything above par
A nation no one can regret

Day 272 - This I Believe אַנִי מְאֲמִין

This I believe אַנִי מְאֲמִין
I stand for secrets unseen
Moments that fade to deepest gold
Tales, tugging at pens, to be told
From the heart of a holy place
Without regards of religion or race
Bonds that break such boundaries
Completing the unity in communities
Across the world and all around
The sweet, true, filling sound
Of songs that fly in peace
So that horror shall decrease
As צְדָקָה justice strongly thrives
Echoing הַתִקְוָה the hope of our lives
אָנֹכִי מְאֲמִינָה this I believe
Into our hearts joy we shall weave

________________________________________________________
Author's Note:
The Hebrew found in this poem is placed beside its English equivalent, each time. However for our non-Hebrew speakers/readers I have a placed below direct translations and transliteration. (in transliteration i = ee)
Also note Hebrew is read from left to write, to accommodate this the poem is posted using a center margin. Both the male and female equivalents were used in Hebrew to state unity in the poem.

אַנִי - I (modern Hebrew) ani
אָנֹכִי - I (anceint Hebrew) anochi
מְאֲמִינָה - believe (female) m'a-minah
מְאֲמִין - believe (male) m'a-min
הַתִקְוָה - the hope (הַ proceeding a word means "the") ha-tikvah
צְדָקָה - charity, (from the core of the word justice) tz'dakah

Finally dedicated to Genesis and BIMA at Brandeis 2010 and especially Shimshon, for his Hebrew help.

Day 258 - Piano City Keys

I weep I cry
Searching for the inside
No more blue sky
Just one more way to be denied
Don't play me like I'm ivory trust
To pour your fingers across
I am not silver, only iron prone to rust
Any tune within I, is a loss
The black keys of this city can't save me
They only echo my anguished plea

Let us try to light up the sky
From this low and dark place
Perhaps we will do more than try
And astonish this city square into grace
From the simplicity of parking lots
We have the hope of our generation
Tied into a thousand digital knots
Without any hope of explanation
We play an unfamiliar melody
Across the photographed piano city key

Day 231 - Raining Innocence

Well truth only likes the rain

For the simple ripple effect

That the water can obtain

Creating everything once again, perfect

Laughter echoes differently here

In this essential time

Purifying opportunities are clear

As agelessness hits a prime

Ivory essences perch upon

Green blooming curlicues

A quiet message falling on

The human lying dues

Children see faeries in this haven

When water spills from many a cloud

The tinkling, as if on a shiny tin

Makes them each gleefully proud

To be a part of the storm puddles

Whilst innocence shades them calmly

Because the older world foolishly huddles

Though life here flows about psalm-ly

Day 227 - Journey of Quality

Well now you may see something else
Than what I am trying to say
Considering this picture is longer than
The time you have in a day
Or so it seems to walk and spin
As you let time on the wind, rush in

In a straight line on into complete infinity
We can walk from the end to the beginning
Or in reverse if you prefer, anything is possible
Once you have experienced winning or sinning
Answers are not something you desperately need
Not an opportunity for which you would wish to plead

Walk that journey in your own to shoes
Feeling the pain and calluses on your own feet
That is the splintering of the calm, smooth wood
Meaning you have a chance to be more complete
Completion is blue to blue, shade to shade, one to another
In a connection with the world you could not otherwise discover

Day 201 - Iscream [spelling is for big kids]

King Kone is the best place
To get on your soft serv silly face
And lick icy goodness to the extreme
In a million flavors of ice cream
What an ad we sound like here
But think just a moment back my dear
To the time when the ice cream truck song
Was the best in summer days so hot and long
You would run and cheer to get that fudgesicle
Or imagine answers from the dreamsicle
Because you needed melting goodness more and more
Each melting gooey lick was even better than before
So whether it was this place or another
That you would beg your older sister or brother
To run to when the day was hot and long
Nothing is better than an ice creamsicle song

Day 146 - We Are

They define who they think we are
Claiming we live in our own worlds
But here is the truth in who we are
We embrace more and bow less
We pull each other closer by far
Loving one another for who we are

They announce what we young ones think
That the world lives in glowing boxes
And is caged on glowing screens that shrink
Shrinking as time moves forward evermore
They do not understand that we are a link
Linking together in the time of a blink

Misunderstanding, they stop the stream
One that used to flow with knowledge
So that they can haughtily deem
All that we will be or so they think
But not matter how strong they seem
They cannot, will not, stop each dream

Dreams that tie nations together
In understanding and technology
Hopes that act as the ultimate tether
When our arms are too short to reach
Some tiny instant will one day last forever
That day we will stand strong, one, together

Day 142 - Children's Games

What do you see?
They say, they squeal
As we watch the wide expanse
How does it look?
How would it feel?
They wonder, watching lights dance

They form great wings
Some shout out, excited
You gaze harder, too grown up to see
The fans speed changes a shape
And they watch, delighted
Trying to discover what else it may be

Your old eyes catch a glint now
But on the faces of the children
Not in the shadows above
With their faces arched up
You miss how you were back then
Innocent, eyes glowing with love

Day 94 - Circle of Hope

Dedicated to Ravit, for instilling and igniting passion

Circle of Hope

Each stone has a story
A rushing, rhythmic, glowing glory
Of the mountain it used to be
Now washed into the great, wide sea
The circle that you see before you
Let it deeply implore you
To find the answer, in this time
When all anger seems the crime
We shall stand and support the young
For all their songs that are left unsung
Their growth is green and bright,
The truest source of the great light
That will teach peace to every nation
Bringing forth the greatest of elation.
For now we protect them in love
Thanking our lucky stars above
For sending us such wondrous hope
So that youth and joy may elope
Creating the world we all long for
Beginning from the stones' core

Day 87 - The Young Willow

The Young Willow

Dedicated to those who have spent their summers in the Willows.

There is a blessing upon this place
Destined for many an embrace
Of the young hopers and dreamers to come
They shall change the world and then some
With their words they shall spar
Never viewing with anger from afar
But rather taking on justice with pride
The leaders of the kind and noble side
They paint tapestries of peace
Until all fighting shall at last cease
They shall stand side by side hand in hand
To embrace the different and understand
For understanding leads to good things
Such as smiles and trampoline springs
In this future a sweet and precious sight
Holding out through the rain, beckoning light
Yes the young ones will one day be old
Under these willow branches tales will be told
Of how hope was planted and grew
In the hearts of both me and you

Day 60 - We're Alive

We're Alive
Don't you ever wonder when this road will end
As we stare into the infinite light
Doesn't the question come to mind, friend?
When we travel into the rushing night
Which spurns us on with an electric energy
All the moments that happened before
Everything that brought with it humanity
And all that is still waiting in store
It pulses down into our veins
Addressing the very core of our being
As we speed down these lanes
Mostly watching, hardly ever seeing
Keep it moving and we shall thrive
Declaring to all others "We're alive!"

Day 36 - Adventures of a Teddy Bear

Adventures of a Teddy Bear

Teddy wanted to learn to fly today
So we plotted long and hard in my room
Over tea and crumpets that were yummy I say
We talked about how he would zoom
Mr. Turtle helped me too just as we planned
But Ms. Snake says that Teddy won't understand

We put a flying scarf on his head
As I told him how much I love him
We practiced the height, jumping on the bed
While Monkey swung on his favorite limb
It was all going really well I think
So we went downstairs to get a drink

I was telling Molly our puppy how it was going
As I munched on goldfish and drank my juice
We were finally ready for the big showing
Which I stood up tall to introduce
So I said, "I always knew Teddy could soar."
He went up, up and then down, down onto the floor

Day 34 - Light of Legacy

I am dreams I am breath
I am life after your death
I am the glow and shine of visionary light
I hold the keys to revealing majestic sight
You speak wonders did you not know
I ponder every moment where I will go
Shall I follow the path that you laid for me?
Or bravely march on towards my own liberty?

Do no think that you can turn a cheek
I am the ear that you forever must seek
If you find ways into my extraordinary place
You could be the last one they see in my face
That is what you yearn for is it not?
To always remain and never be forgot
I speak the words that bring you great merit
It is my legacy that in death you inherit

I am the last of the hope
I am the voice calling out the trope
I am the one leaving what I wish to behind
Your answers are questions that I still long to find
Do not cut me short or pull away in fear
I carry the promises that you hold so dear
If you understand all that you have left for me
You will know that time and joy is our legacy

Day 33 - The End of the World as We Know It

Who is the vision?
What is the source?
What is the decision?
Who inspires the verse?
In a world where each moment enlightens..
What do you declare as the world brightens?
There are the dancers high up above
There the embracers so much in love
There is the dreamer gazing to the sky
And the one who will see eye to eye
Here is the message we share with all the rest
There the truth that we may pass the test
And finally the wisdom of all the sages
The truth we find throughout the ages
It weaves through every generation
It is the voice of an entire nation
But then again so are we
It is our lives that you now see
