Day 302 - Naughty at the Seaside

Dedicated to my Daddy who read the book a million times over to me

Tell me the story again, she pleads
Sifting the sand between her toes
The one where they get caught up in the sea weeds
Nodding she can see that Daddy knows
So he puts on the funny face he saves
For only the best and most heroic tales
In which the adventurers hide in caves
Quickly pulling down their give-away sails
She walks on proudly sure she is the one
Who shall master the pirate's vast ship
A perfect day in the seaside sun
Water bright blue inviting a dip
Into tales of pirates who the wide world roam
Nothing else in the stories ever felt so like home

Day 254 - Vinyl Child

Dedicated to Ryan
Also to my parents and family who made me into the vinyl child I am

The soothing pop of vinyl
Is the lullaby of my youth
No harsh digital perfection
Only living, feeling, truth

The trust in the music
That flows with life around it
The warble of the folk voice
And the pride to sound it

Here is to the times we lived
In awe dancing to those songs
Growing up on the tunes and artists
Who righted all the wrongs

That buzz and fizz that echoes
Makes me trust in the person there
Strumming life into strings
Beating drums and filling the living air

With lullabies for every being
And for my children when they grow
Spinning, blurring on the turntable
The soothing pop, and hiss so low

Day 194 - Gravity Giving Out

One day gravity gave out on me
So I floated high up for all to see
Like a balloon against the sky so blue
Up and away I went and the farther I flew
The more I missed the blue flowers down there
And all the hugs that show how much people care

You see on the ground I could dance and sing
Songs like the classic "I don't wanna miss a thing"
But that means much more when you are high in the clouds
Far away from the rock concert thriving crowds
Or the smell of your mother's chicken soup secrets
And the cuddling of your many panting and happy pets

It seemed so thrilling being like a bird so high
Waving as airplanes passed me in the sky
But only until I saw the passengers happily land
And the people on the beach, toes in the sand
Flight is a blessing many wish for when they are young
But the magic of Earth is the most melodious song unsung

The amazing trees rooted deep into the ground
The screeching yet beautifully renewing sound
Of a babe barely born into this place
And the sweat covering a laughing mother's face
But most of all true friends and close family
Makes the ground my favorite place to be

Day 149 - Too Quiet and Old

In a quiet old room, sit two quiet old chairs
Much too old and quiet to encourage more stares
But once upon a time long ago that pot
Was formed by hands so very well taught
The woman who made it fashioned that lace
With meticulous care and hands full of grace
Those chairs that you see where made by a man
One who ardently did all that one can
To build the perfect home for his one and only
So if he ever need leave she would not be lonely
By that bright window they held their first child
And many more who came after keeping life wild
Very little is the house old and quiet anymore
Rushing and bustle with grandchildren is in store
But every once in a while a great hush can be found
Then husband and wife sit old and quiet around
The table and chairs and soft worn old lace
Lovingly their hands make a sweet embrace
He whispers to her, "I know we are quiet and old
But ours is the best love story ever told."

Day 132 - Kitchen Flowers

Life is rich and colorful
Watching as those around us grow
We grow ever more wonderful
Sprouting all that we know

Love swirls in aromas everywhere
That leads us up into the light
Water is poured with gentle care
So that we bloom happy and bright

Outside we learn from the other plants
Who truly experience the sun
In the trees' shadow a promise of romance
One that has only barely begun

We watch and we wait for more stories to tell
That will bloom out of our petals
For now though we hear a tinkling bell
And the whistling of excited kettles

Day 125 - Daily Tea

Daily Tea

Dedicated to Our Mommies

Sweet memories are patterns traced
Into the threadbare and worn carpet
Nothing of substance can be erased
Though the whole world is not a perfect set
The heart is filled with moving energy
Like the sweetest of comforting tea

Holding close, abutting one another
Only then do we light each other's eyes
The tea is the love of every mother
Always holding out one more surprise
So in this cup we toast each of you
Never being able to give half what you are due
